Every student is required to have a complete physical exam. This includes a pre-physical (valid for one year) and a physical (valid for two years). Students can schedule this hour-long exam at the LUHC. Additional tests or labs may be performed when necessary.
II. Immunizations
Required immunizations and highly recommended immunizations are based on guidelines outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), American Medical Association (AMA), the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH), and Tropimed, a travel medicine support system.
The TDH mandates proof of two MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) and proof of two Varicella (chickenpox) immunizations or positive titer tests proving immunity as a requirement for attending higher education institutions. TDH does allow religious exemptions for the required immunizations; therefore, students must submit notarized documentation claiming religious exemption and complete a Petition for Exception to Academic Policy, subject to approval by Academic Affairs.
Travel to countries where diseases or illnesses are considered “high risk,” may include immunizations that are “highly recommended.” Students must come to LUHC, read a Vaccine Information Statement and elect to receive the vaccine, or the student may sign a waiver.
Some immunizations are given as a series; therefore, early planning is crucial to achieve maximum immunity prior to the travel start date.
HEALTH CLEARANCE PROCESS
Students going on a Lee University Global Perspectives trip should call the Health Clinic at 423-614-8430 to schedule an appointment to get the health clearance process started after submitting the forms in "My Forms" on the Student Health Portal (leeuniversity.studenthealthportal.com).
